About Stonetree Guitars
Stonetree Guitar Company has been in existence since 1989, tucked away in the small quiet town of Saratoga, Wyoming.Stonetree Guitar Company was founded by Scott Platts. Scott was a journeyman machinist at a refinery where he meticulously machined parts to extremely fine tolerances. He figured if he could make parts out of stainless steel, then he could do the same with wood. He soon turned his attention to his hobby of guitar building, which he states “it was a hobby that got out of hand” and started applying his machinist and industry knowledge to guitar building.
One of the reasons Scott started building guitars was that he couldn’t get what he wanted from production guitars. At first Scott primarily would build the guitars for himself but other players started noticing the fine quality of his guitars and would commission one. Scott began Stonetree Guitars on his kitchen table. This went on until he decided there was enough demand to quit his day job and go full-time. Later on, a shop was built onto the side of the house which he quickly outgrew. In 2005 he moved his shop into a separate building downtown.
Since then Stonetree has enjoyed being known on the professional level being played by artists such as Eric “Roscoe” Ambel (Steve Earl & The Dukes), Joe Bonamassa, Staley Rogers (Gene Watson) Walt Houston (Bobby Bare), Billy McCoy (Janie Fricke) and singer-songwriter Noel Rosa. Stonetree’s motto is “We use the best materials available, and will create guitars and basses that are benchmarks in tone, feel, appearance and soul!”
Since 1989 Stonetree has proven this to be true.
